Introducing Issues and Concepts in Clinical Ethics
This course will offer an introduction to core concepts in bioethics with an emphasis on the importance of autonomy. The program will highlight the relationship between autonomy, confidentiality, informed consent, and capacity, and will discuss the ethical issues that may arise with these. Case studies will be utilized to offer guidance on how to approach and resolve ethical issues relevant to the clinical practice of speech language pathologists. Other associated topics such as the Texas hierarchies for surrogate decision making and the basics of the Texas Advance Directive Act will also be covered.
