For over 50 years, the Houston Association for Communication Disorders has served SLP professionals, students, and colleagues of the Houston area with opportunities for networking, professional development, and funding the future generations of professionals.
Due to steady decreases in memberships and course attendance over the past ten years, along with the increasing competition of virtual platforms for CEUs, the board voted to make the difficult decision of dissolving the organization.
This group would never have succeeded in its prime without the participation of the members who joined year after year, spread the word about the group, and contributed to its many distinctions and accomplishments. There would be no HACD without its members, so I thank each and every one of you for all that you've done.
I would like to take a moment to thank all of the past board members who molded this group into what it was and what it is. Their years of contributions made our group the biggest professional organization for communication disorders in Texas for many years. Many past board members have stayed on as general members or consultants to the current board and provided a wealth of experience and knowledge.
Most importantly, I want to thank the current board. For the past seven years, I have had the utmost privilege to work with an outstanding group of women, all with full-time jobs and full-time home lives who gave a little bit of themselves consistently to the betterment of this group. We weathered constant changes to the development of the program, constant changes to the community around us and worked on keeping this organization afloat through a worldwide pandemic. To my amazing board, I thank you for making this an experience that I will never forget.
Our social media pages will remain open until the end of the year, and our email account (info@hacd.org) will be monitored and working until June 2024 for any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you for being part of a Houston legacy. Thank you for letting us serve you.
